Upon reservation the host asked us about what we wanted to learn to cook .

We had some specific dishes we wanted to learn,

but we were also interested in what an average Japanese family would cook at home.

On the day of the cooking experience, Machiko welcomed us

with green tea and cookies.

She was very interested in our country, our lives, we had a pleasant conversation.

She then showed us some Japanese cook books.

As we started cooking, she explained everything ,gave us tasks,

and answered all my questions with patience.

Machiko used high-quality ingredients.

We made rice, a vegetable side dish, chawanmushi, teriyaki salmon, karaage and onigiri.

Some of these were our requests, others were her idea.

Machiko showed us a lot of tricks, tools, utensils, spices she uses for cooking, which was really interesting and educational.

We had a rice lunch when everything was done.

Machiko and her husband are really kind and friendly people who are genuinely interested in learning from their guests.

If you’d like to meet a Japanese and have an authentic experience,

this is an excellent option.
